SELECTA HAZEY PRESENTS "VS." REMIX/MASHUP PROMOTION
I recently posted on social media the question of what songs people wanted to hear remixed/mashed up. I have posed this question before, but for some reason, there was more of a response this time. In my dedication to do things right and official, I have decided to dedicate some free time (what little I have BTW) to working on this "VS." project. I've kinda been off and on the grid for a bit, so this will be a great way to interact with everyone on a new level.
The concept is simple. Submit a request on my Facebook Artist Page (CLICK HERE.) OR leave your request in the comments for this post. I will check out the track or tracks, and see if there is potential to pursue the mix further. When the mix is done, I will post a free MP3 download link for you to preview your track. *To be clear: the downloaded MP3 is for promotional/preview purposes only, and not intended for sale/profit. THAT being said, what you do with the track I consider your own business. On that note as well, I will make my best attempt to put "VS." tracks on streaming platforms, but there is no guarantee it will pass the copyright bots. I often have remixes taken down immediately...
SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN POSTING A REQUEST:
There aren't necessarily any "guidelines" as of yet for this, but there are definitely some things to that will determine if I can produce something worthwhile for us. The big point is, sometimes things don't work with a mashup idea. I consider all of these factors here, and sometimes it just doesn't sound right. Please be creative, but some of these things will help to create a great remix. If you have a request I cannot accommodate, I'll let you know, FYI:
- Tempo/BPM. I can pretty much mix any range of tempos/BeatsPerMinute together. But there's no guarantee it will sound right/good. Yes there are work arounds and production techniques, but sometimes it is just not worth it. When submitting 2 or more tracks, try to think about picking tracks with similar tempos, if possible.
- Key/Melody/Harmony: If you are blessed with a good ear for key and harmony, consider it with multiple track remixes. Sometimes the tempo, drums, etc. will all line up nice, but the key/melody/harmony is just not right. And sorry, I'm not proficient with Autotune, Etc. at this point (someday.)
- Drums: Tracks within the same genre are usually the easiest to mashup due to the fact the drums are often structured similar. (IMO the drums are often what helps define genre.) I understand that (one) reason mashups are great, is because they are combing different things, so don't let me discourage you! I do lots of Hip Hop/Reggae remixes, and something things just don't line up right..
- Is this a good idea?: Again, please think out of the box, but lets create great remixes here. I have a massive library of studio acapellas, they're flawless for mixing, but truth be told, some of them are songs no one wants to hear on any beat/instrumental...lolz
- Is it possible: This one is mostly on me the remix producer...when I approach a mashup, I diligently seek out the best possible quality instrumentals & acapellas, if not studio versions or "stems." If absolutely all of this is exhausted, I still have a few other resources, but on occasion some tracks are unmixable, at least humbly from my current experience & skill-set.
